Event Overview:
In celebration of Silent Movie Day, a special screening of “The Dragon Painter” (1919), a pioneering Asian American film, will be held.
Films Being Screened: The Dragon Painter” (1919), starring Japanese American actor Sessue Hayakawa.
This film is known for its respectful portrayal of Japanese culture without the orientalist stereotypes of the time, and the story revolves around the tale of Tatsu, a painter who believes that his fiancee has been captured by a dragon.
The live piano accompaniment will be provided by Makia Matsumura, who also provided the soundtrack for the film.
